This lecture recital commemorates the 150th anniversary of Manuel de Falla’s birth.
Dr. Marina Bengoa Roldán will explore how both composers utilized different elements of flamenco and other Spanish musical idioms in their works. Bengoa will analyzes the use of Spanish idioms in de Falla’s piano composition, “Fantasia Baetica,” and offers historical and cultural context related to the work drawn from De Falla’s personal archives. The lecture recital also highlights a new Spanish piano fantasy by Pascual Gimeno, composed in 2021.
