Organizer: School of Music
Venue: Crowder Hall
Start Time: 9:00am

The University of Arizona School of Music is proud to present its 2025 Summer Music Camp, a weeklong experience designed to inspire, challenge, and connect young musicians across Southern Arizona.

The camp will take place June 16–20, 2025, and is open to students currently in 5th through 8th grade who have at least one year of instruction in band, choir, or orchestra.

Held on campus, this daytime camp runs from 9a – 3p daily, and will conclude with a celebratory final concert for family and friends at 5p on Friday, June 20. Students can choose to enroll in a primary ensemble—Band, Choir, or Orchestra—and participate in a unique Artist-in-Residence elective such as Mariachi or Music & Movement for an added creative experience.

The camp is organized and led by School of Music faculty members Dr. M. Nicole Davis and Dr. Kelsey Nussbaum, whose diverse expertise and passion for equitable music education bring exceptional depth to the program.

Dr. M. Nicole Davis is a dedicated music educator, conductor, and researcher who holds a Ph.D. in Music Education–Choral Conducting from Florida State University. Her experience includes leading choral programs at the high school and collegiate level, conducting community choirs, and teaching undergraduate courses in conducting and choral methods. Her research explores the intersection of social, racial, and economic factors in music education, and she is an active leader in organizations such as the National Association of Negro Musicians (NANM), Women in Choral Higher Ed (WiCHEd), and Voices for Social Justice.

Dr. Kelsey Nussbaum, an Assistant Professor of Music Education, is a string bassist and Texas native who joined the Arizona faculty in 2022. She also serves in the Applied Intercultural Arts Research program and directs the U of A String Project. With prior teaching experience at the University of Washington and five years in Austin public schools, her research focuses on dismantling systemic barriers in music education and has been published in leading academic journals.

Together, Dr. Davis and Dr. Nussbaum are committed to creating an inclusive, enriching experience where young musicians can grow their skills and confidence while having fun.
