In 2020, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and following the murder of George Floyd, Tucson-based photographer Kathleen Dreier began to document the Tucson community and the social issues it was grappling with.
Each participant from these photo essays shared their personal story of how the year 2020 had impacted them, how their family was affected by the pandemic, or how food become a place of healing during a time of personal and social unrest.
Presented in conjunction with the UAMA’s current exhibition The Art of Food, the photographs in this exhibition reflect the stories of twelve Tucsonans whose lives or livelihoods are connected to the local food system. Dreier’s photographs capture stories of resilience, joy, grief and justice.

Tucson Stories: Alimentos, Salud, Comunidad, Justicia
En 2020, en medio de la pandemia de COVID-19 y tras el asesinato de George Floyd, la fotógrafa con sede en Tucson, Kathleen Dreier comenzó a documentar a la comunidad de Tucson y sus problemas sociales. Cada participante de estos ensayos fotográficos compartió su historia de cómo el año 2020 los impactó, cómo su familia se vio afectada por la pandemia o cómo los alimentos se convirtieron en un lugar de mejoría durante un momento de disturbio personal y social. Junto con la exposición actual de la UAMA, The Art of Food, las fotografías de esta exposición reflejan las historias de doce tucsonenses cuyas vidas o medios de subsistencia están conectados con el sistema alimentario local. Las fotografías de Dreier capturan historias de resiliencia, alegría, dolor y justicia.
