Helen McNeil-Ashton, daughter of Abstract Expressionist artist George McNeil and his art-director wife Dora, is a retired academic, a writer and the current Vice President for the Collection at the Highland House Museum in Truro, Massachusetts.

Unless proven otherwise, every child takes their family for “normal” just the way it is. So if you’re raised in a bohemian world marked by passionate commitment – well – that’s “normal” too, with creative and destructive consequences for all.

From the late 1940s to the 1960s, Helen grew up – or tried to – in the hothouse of the New York art scene. Her talk “Confessions of an Art Brat” looks at this world from a child’s-eye view, naive but sharply observant. Join us on Zoom by registering below!

*This talk is presented in conjunction with the current exhibitions Restored: The Return of Woman-Ochre and Abstract Perspectives in Mid-Century Art, which features George McNeil’s Daisy.
