The University of Arizona’s arts and humanities programs move up to No. 10 among public universities and No. 26 among all U.S. institutions in the 2021 Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject, released Oct. 28.
The ranking highlights the universities that are leading across the following disciplines: art, performing arts, design, languages, literature, linguistics, history, philosophy, theology, architecture and archaeology.
“’Top 10’ always has a nice ring to it, and I am delighted to see us move into this elite group of U.S. public universities,” said Andrew Schulz, dean of the College of Fine Arts and vice president for Arizona Arts.
The university moved up from 11th to 10th from last year’s ranking.

Arts and humanities were also ranked 80th out of 565 universities worldwide, retaining the same ranking from last year.
“This ranking affirms something we have known for some time: The arts and humanities are core strengths of the University of Arizona, and are central to our reputation as a world-class research university,” said Schulz. “It is gratifying to see the work of our extraordinary faculty across these domains recognized in this way.”
