Governor Katie Hobbs has issued a commendation to the University of Arizona Center for Creative Photography in recognition of its 50th Anniversary.

“For five decades, the Center for Creative Photography continues to uphold the values of creativity, curiosity, and collaboration while maintaining its focus on student engagement through class visits, extracurricular programs and faculty-led collaborations that enrich the culture and intellectual landscape of Southern Arizona and beyond,” the commendation reads.

Regional Outreach Coordinator Selina Valenzuela of the Governor’s Southern Arizona office presented the commendation to CCP Director Todd Tubutis today.

“On behalf of the Center for Creative Photography, thank you, Governor Hobbs, for your gracious commendation celebrating our  50th anniversary year,” Tubutis said. “The CCP is a globally recognized institution grounded right here, at the University of Arizona, that is steadfastly committed to bringing new and deeper meaning to the ever-changing and experimental field of photography. We are honored to be recognized for that service on campus, in our communities, and beyond.”

CCP is in the final days of its exhibition, “Picture Party: Celebrating the Collection at 50,” which closes on Dec. 20. The exhibition showcasing more than 100 iconic images, recent acquisitions and archival objects from its world-renowned collection. 

The exhibition brings together works by renowned photographers – including the CCP co-founder Ansel Adams, Harry Callahan, Tseng Kwong Chi, Imogen Cunningham, Roy DeCarava, Robert Heinecken, Graciela Iturbide, Susan Meiselas, Minor White, and Carrie Mae Weems – alongside emerging artists, creating unexpected juxtapositions that offer fresh perspectives.
