Chad Herzog, executive and artistic director of Arizona Arts Live and associate vice president of Arizona Arts, has been selected as one of nine inaugural Provost Fellows for Academic Success Goals — a new university-wide program launched in fall 2025 to advance the University of Arizona’s strategic priorities.
“I encourage you to engage with them by sharing your priorities, challenges and ideas,” said Provost and Chief Academic Officer Patricia Prelock in announcing the cohort. “The leadership of these fellows, combined with strong partnerships across campus, will be catalysts for our progress.”
Herzog is one of two fellows working within the ‘Engagement with Our Communities to Create Opportunity’ strategic imperative, joining a cohort drawn from nearly 60 applicants across campus.

“I am excited to help strengthen how the University engages with communities across Arizona,” Herzog said. “I hope to build on my experience working across units and alongside community partners to support partnerships that build trust, expand access, and create meaningful connections that benefit students, faculty, and the communities we serve.”
The fellowship puts Herzog at the center of a broader university effort to deepen community partnerships and expand access — work that aligns closely with the mission he has championed at Arizona Arts since 2019. Under his leadership, Arizona Arts Live has grown into a nationally recognized platform, expanding engagement across Southern Arizona and collaborating with hundreds of local, national, and international partners.
As a fellow, Herzog will work with deans, campus leaders, and administrative units to surface opportunities, reduce duplication of effort, and help align community engagement work happening across the university. Fellows serve one-year appointments with the potential for a second year.
“I look forward to collaborating with campus leaders and community partners to better align engagement efforts and deepen the University’s role as a trusted land-grant institution,” Herzog added.
