Yuri Makino, associate professor of film and television, has accepted an appointment as Interim Dean for Academic Affairs and Student Success for the College of Fine Arts beginning in the 2024-25 academic year, announced by Dean Andy Schulz, May 17, in a memo about college leadership transitions and faculty promotions.
Makino has served as Associate Director of the School of Theatre, Film & Television since 2011, and in 2018-19 she served as Interim Co-Director for the school. Her teaching has centered on directing for the screen and on screenwriting, and she played a central role in the development and successful launch of the online B.A. in Film degree. This summer she will be finishing a documentary, “Rough & Tumble: Taking Play Seriously.” As a 2023-24 Udall Center Fellow, she is at work on a feature-length documentary, “America’s Health: Welcome to the Game.”
College leadership transitions
Makino’s appointment in the Dean’s Office will begin in August and run through May 2025. An internal search for the next permanent Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Student Success will launch in the upcoming academic year.
Also, Professor of Art David Taylor will become the college’s permanent Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs this fall.
“David has served very effectively as Interim Associate Dean during this past academic year, and we have been encouraged by senior leadership to make such interims permanent,” said CFA Dean Andy Schulz. “Please join me in congratulating Yuri and David!”
