Ballet BC is Canada’s preeminent contemporary dance company led by Artistic Director Medhi Walerski. For over 40 years, Ballet BC has been at the forefront of creating, producing, and educating contemporary dance around the world. Their visceral, thought-provoking, and transformative pieces continue to wow audiences and attract top international talent, pushing the art form forward.
Beyond its performances, Ballet BC is a leader and resource in the community through a wide range of educational and professional development initiatives, which aim to share the power of dance with the widest possible audience. Their performance in Tucson will feature three bold and distinctive pieces, including an exclusive world premiere. Presented live in Centennial Hall:
BOLERO X, set to French composer Maurice Ravel’s 1928 masterpiece, Bolero, features a 20-member ensemble in breathtaking synchronization as they mimic the score, gradually building towards a hypnotizing crescendo.
SWAY is an intimate exploration of hope inspired by Emily Dickinson’s Hope is the thing with Feathers—seven graceful dancers in fluid, harmonic transitions between duets and the group.
