“Spring is summoned, the summer season is celebrated, wedding ceremonies are sung, and life stories told. Kurbasy envelops us in magical-musical charm.”

Kurbassy is a bold and visionary vocal ensemble from Lviv, Ukraine, known for blending ancient folk traditions with modern storytelling. Founded by actor-singers Natalia Rybka-Parkhomenko and Maria Oneschak, they reimagine Ukraine’s rich musical heritage through powerful vocal harmonies, rare regional dialects, and theatrical staging. Their performances celebrate the natural world, ancient rituals, and the enduring spirit of their homeland.
Their newest work, Songs of the Ukrainian Forest, was created during the pandemic and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as a message of strength, memory, and freedom. The 14-song cycle features ancient calendar songs, lullabies, and folk legends from across Ukraine, with lyrics about love, loss, joy, and war. Enhanced by haunting projections from artist Gryca Erde, Kurbassy’s performances are both timeless and urgent — a moving tribute to the resilience of a people and the enduring beauty of their traditions.
