Organizer: School of Dance
Venue: Steinfeld Gallery
Start Time: 4:45pm

Join School of Dance Assistant Professor Sarah Lisette Chiesa for a unique, 40-minute interactive “happening” during the First Saturday ArtWalk at Steinfeld Gallery.

This immersive event invites participants to explore their energetic presence through guided movement exercises inspired by Feldenkrais, body-mind centering, and breath work.

As you enter, you’ll receive a small task on a piece of paper. At a designated time, you’ll be invited to the gallery’s outdoor deck, where Sarah will facilitate a group exploration of movement, awareness, and presence. Afterward, participants will paste their task papers onto a stretched canvas, creating a collective representation of their experience.

This event is part of Sarah’s ongoing research into how energetic presence influences human interaction, social change, and our connection with the environment. What if increased awareness of this presence could enhance our relationships—not just with each other, but with the spaces and objects around us?

About the Artist:
Sarah Lisette Chiesa is an educator and interdisciplinary performance artist whose work spans dance, sculpture, and improvisation.

Headshot of Assistant Professor Sarah Lisette Chiesa

She has performed internationally with Shen Wei Dance Arts and has collaborated with avant-garde composers, designers, and visual artists. Sarah’s research explores psychological states, feminism, and environmental themes, blending performance with interactive experiences.

On Feb. 1, Chiesa will be doing the first iteration of a workshop that builds awareness around our energetic presence and the way in which it is affected and effects all of our interactions with people, nature, and architecture.

This free event offers a rare opportunity to engage with experimental performance and explore new ways of being present—within yourself, with others, and in the world around you.
