What does it mean to write about food as a queer person? This question will guide us as we read food poetry and nonfiction by trans and queer authors, then write our own short pieces. Come prepared with paper, something to write with, and a willingness to learn from one another.

While this virtual workshop will center on LGBTQ+ experiences, participation is open to all. It is presented in conjunction with The Art of Food exhibition, on view at the UAMA through March 20, 2022.

It will be facilitated by Wren Awry, a writer, editor, and archives student with a strong interest in foodways and food history. Their essays have appeared in places such as The Rumpus, Entropy, Essay Daily, and Blind Field: A Journal of Cultural Inquiry, as well as in the anthology Rebellious Mourning: The Collective Work of Grief. They’re currently editing an anthology about the role of food in protest movements and mutual aid for PM Press.
