How do we express big and little ideas, feelings, disruptions and transformations?

UAMA’s annual summer Vault Show creates an opportunity for artworks to come out of storage and into the galleries, showcasing our permanent collection of over 7,000 objects in new and invigorating ways. This year’s edition comes together around the ideas of big and little.

Pondering the physically largest and smallest works in the collection led to deeper reflections on size, scale and meaning. How do we express big and little ideas, feelings, disruptions and transformations? Do artists ever make mountains out of molehills, put good things in small packages, or create something greater than the sum of its parts? The works on view invite you to explore small details and vast expanses, including giants and hidden gems from the museum’s permanent collection as it has grown over the last 80+ years.

Roy Lichtenstein, Seascape, 1964-1965, Screenprint/collage, H-5.12 W-7.88, Gift of Dr. and Mrs. Howard Conant

Curated by Willa Ahlschwede, Curator of Academic and Community Engagement, with support from UAMA interns Jocelyn James and Lei Wang.
