School of Music

Macy Halverson attended an ‘opera scenes’ program this summer in Vicenza, Italy, thanks to support from the College of Fine Arts Medici Circle.

Halverson, a fourth-year student studying vocal performance, attended the International Lyric Academy’s opera scenes program to improve her performances. The academy gives students opportunities to perform on international stages and study with renowned vocal faculty. Halverson performed the role of Pamina in an abbreviated version of Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte.

“This had me involved in hours of music and staging rehearsals every day, giving me a glimpse into the world of professional opera production,” she said.

Halverson also sang in recital performances, took master classes with Gayla Blaisdell and Marc Daboll, and joined the mainstage production of Falstaff as an ensemble member.

Through the experience, she deepened her passion for her craft and made important connections with faculty and peers.

“This undertaking has absolutely been a formative one for me—both in how I see myself as a performer now and in how I want to direct my education and future career,” she said.

She added that as she progresses in her career, she feels, “better prepared to deal with the unique challenges of my chosen field and confident about my place in it.”

Medici Circle Appreciation

“I want to express my deep gratitude for Lisa W. Harter, whose generous donation through the Medici Scholars program helped make it possible for me to attend this program. Your gift of this opportunity has had a profound impact on what I intend to pursue as a career after graduation.”
