Gavin Michaels took a two-week intensive training program in New York City this summer, thanks to support from the College of Fine Arts’ Medici Circle.
Michaels is in his third and final year at the University of Arizona, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in dance. He attended the Verdon Fosse Legacy Intensive Training Program taking daily technique classes designed to reinforce foundational skills across multiple disciplines in the mornings and learning original Bob Fosse repertoire in the afternoon.
“Growing up, I had a lot of mentors who had performed Bob Fosse works throughout their careers, and I wanted to further my exposure to this style,” Michaels said.

“This immersive experience connected me to multi-generational dancers who worked with Bob Fosse themselves. Drawing from their expertise and experience was invaluable. I learned not only how to perform Fosse techniques but also made professional connections that I will carry with me throughout my career.”
The Bob Fosse repertoire is a very specific style within the jazz umbrella by continuing his education with the Verdon Fosse Legacy over the summer, Michaels expanded his versatility, making him even more hirable upon graduation this spring.
