School of Dance

Gwen Buettner interned with the renowned Joffrey Ballet School this summer, thanks to support from the College of Fine Arts Medici Circle.

Buettner, a senior double majoring in dance and journalism, managed student wellness working within the Joffrey residence hall. She corresponded with artistic faculty, administration, and the health and wellness team daily to foster positive experiences for the students. Buettner also escorted students to Joffrey locations throughout the city, to Broadway musicals, physical therapy, and more, while taking classes with world-class faculty free of charge.

“This was a major draw for me,” she said. “I wanted to be able to work while continuing to grow as a budding professional dancer. I was given the opportunity to live and dance in New York City, networking not only with the wonderful Joffrey faculty, but faculty around the Manhattan as a whole.”

She learned a lot about professional dancing.

“This experience expanded my technical and artistic abilities as well as my ability to manage the inner workings of a dance school/company. The emphasis on problem solving, quick thinking, time management, and organization are skills that I will carry with me through the rest of my life.”

Medici Circle Appreciation

“I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Mr. Wesley Green for making this opportunity possible for me. With your immense generosity, I was able to progress as not only a dancer, but as a person soon. It is because of you that I am one step closer to pursuing my dreams.”
