School of Dance

Veronica Panteluk attended a dance intensive this past summer in New York City, thanks to support from the College of Fine Arts Medici Circle.

Panteluk, fourth-year BFA dance major, trained for three weeks last summer as part of Steps on Broadway Conservatory’s theater jazz program, known as Summer Study NYC. Students study commercial and theater dance through classes in precision jazz, hip-hop, ballet, African jazz, acting, and voice to build a substantial repertoire, preparing them for the professional world.

Dancers also make important connections among world-renowned dance masters. This summer, the program brought in artists such as Olivia Cipolla and Kenna Morris Garcia.

“The program also includes mock auditions with RWS Global Talent, Q&A sessions with industry professionals, Broadway repertoire classes, and workshops on injury prevention and nutrition, giving dancers practical knowledge they can apply to their careers,” said Panteluk.

The program made a profound impact on her as an aspiring professional dancer, adding new skills as an artist.

“My month at Steps on Broadway in New York was one of the most eye-opening and transformative experiences of my dance journey so far. Stepping outside of my comfort zone and strengthening skills like voice and acting– both essential for dancers in today’s industry, especially in New York– pushed me to grow in meaningful ways as an artist,” she said.

She added that learning iconic Broadway repertoire and receiving coaching from successful professionals, “gave me insight and inspiration that I will carry with me throughout my training and future career.”
