College of Fine Arts, School of Dance

Whitney Herr-Buchholz has joined Arizona Arts as Director of Development, beginning July 26.

“It is a great pleasure welcoming Whitney as the newest member of the Arizona Arts development team,” said Tilghman Moyer, Arizona Arts executive director of development. “She has served in leadership role at the School of Dance and she is also a School of Art alumna. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2011, graduating summa cum laude. Her devotion to the arts and expertise makes her a perfect addition to the team.”

Herr-Buchholz was the Director of Operations and Advancement at the School of Dance since 2019. In that role, she was involved in developing strategic vision, communications, recruitment and curriculum.

“It has been an honor to have been part of the talented team at the School of Dance for the past nine years and to contribute to the growth of the school as a preeminent dance program in the country,” she said. “The School of Dance is in good hands and will continue to thrive.”

Herr-Buchholz, who also led the fundraising efforts for dance, will now support advancement efforts for the division.

“I am inspired by the creativity, reflection, and innovation happening every day throughout Arizona Arts,” she said. “I am excited to work across the division with faculty, staff, students, and community members to grow philanthropic support that propels Arizona Arts forward in serving our educational and land-grant mission.”

Herr-Buchholz holds a Master of Nonprofit Leadership and Management degree from Arizona State University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Art and Visual Culture Education: Community and Museums from the University of Arizona. She has curatorial and gallery management experience with Conrad Wilde Gallery, and she developed museum tours and family programs for the Tucson Museum of Art. Prior to her involvement in visual arts, she danced professionally for the San Francisco Ballet and Boston Ballet companies.

She is a recipient of the College of Fine Arts Excellence in Fundraising award and Excellence in Service award.

With the appointment of Herr-Buchholz, the Arizona Arts development team is now complete.

“In the past few months, we have had the fortune to assemble an experienced and dedicated group of professionals charged with engaging alumni and friends of Arizona Arts and securing the private support necessary to advance the arts at the University of Arizona,” Moyer said. “I couldn’t be more excited with the team, which now includes three Arizona graduates, and for the future of Arizona Arts.”
