The Fifth Annual Trester Festival for Latin American Music will focus on the music of Argentina, Brazil and the United States. From Feb. 23-25, the festival will feature a workshop and master class with alumnus Dr. Oscar Macchioni, plus, the final round of the 15th Annual Lois Trester Piano Competition.

Oscar Macchioni (DMA ’04, Piano), an acclaimed Argentine pianist, has captivated audiences worldwide with performances at renowned venues such as Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, St. Martin in the Fields, and Chicago’s Myra Hess Memorial Concerts. He is known for his clarity, expressive phrasing, and his commitment to performing classical Latin American repertoire, with a diverse range from Bach to Piazzolla. He earned his DMA from the University of Arizona, where he was named a “Distinguished Graduate Student.” Among his accolades are the prestigious “Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award” from the University of Texas System and the founding of the Borderland Chopin International Competition. Macchioni’s publications include The Tango in American Piano Music, and his recordings, Mostly Tangos and Piazzolla da Camera, have received critical acclaim. A Steinway artist, Macchioni serves as associate professor of piano pedagogy at the University of North Texas, following a distinguished tenure at the University of Texas at El Paso.
