Staged: The Art of Performance features depictions of performance and performers across disciplines and through a range of media.
Performances offer a space for escape, respite, and contemplation as performers use their voices, bodies, and instruments to captivate audiences and demonstrate skills they have developed over lifetimes of rigorous training. Beyond the beauty and spectacle of stagecraft, this exhibition unveils deeper meanings related to performance, confronting key ethical issues and the personal sacrifices demanded by the spotlight.
In addition to featuring works from the UAMA collection, Staged also includes loans from local private collections as well as contributions from Arizona Arts colleagues. The artists within this exhibition transform fleeting moments into tangible ones, revealing the unique magic and power of presence in motion: the art of performance.
This exhibition was curated by Violet Rose Arma, Assistant Curator, with assistance from Lexie Shaw, Curatorial Intern.
