Witness more than 70 years of color, movement, and cultural pride as the most celebrated Mexican folkloric dance company in the world takes the Tucson stage.
Ballet Folklórico de México de Amalia Hernández is the company that changed what traditional Mexican dance could be. Founded in 1952 by dancer and choreographer Amalia Hernández, the company didn’t just preserve folk traditions; it transformed them. Hernández traveled across Mexico, studying the dances, music, costumes, and customs of each region, then brought them to life on stage with a theatrical vision no one had seen before. The result was the world’s first professional folkloric dance company and a model for thousands of ensembles that followed.
More than 70 years later, the company’s legacy is very much alive. With over 120 original choreographies, elaborate handcrafted costumes, and dancers trained to exacting standards, every performance balances deep cultural roots with the energy of living art. More than 45 million people across the globe have experienced this company. Experience Ballet Folklórico de México live at Centennial Hall.
