Eliza Hitch spent a week as a performance apprentice working with Broadway’s brightest stars, thanks to support from the College of Fine Arts Medici Circle.

Eliza, a BFA musical theatre senior, spent a week at the Broadway Dreams Summer Intensive in Charlotte, North Carolina. She attended classes and rehearsals and assisted faculty. The week culminated in a Broadway-style showcase presented at the Booth Playhouse at the Blumenthal Arts Center.

“I was cast in four performance pieces: a brilliant mash-up entitled “Hamilyoncé” with Hamilton star Warren Egypt Franklin, the hilarious “Telly” from Matilda alongside brilliant comedians Christopher Hanke, Tyler Hanes, and Alex Ellis, a blockparty style 90’s medley also with Alex Ellis, and the electric opening dance number– “Pop”, directed and choreographed by Maxx Reed and Vincent Rodriquez II.”

When not in rehearsals, she took classes from professionals in acting, audition technique, theatre dance, hip hop, comedy, and more. She did a mock audition with Broadway casting director Rachel Hoffman. Company dinners and late-rehearsal allowed for a lot of networking.

“I feel so much more prepared to enter into the professional world with the connections and friendships I made and cannot wait to return to Broadway Dreams. I made friends from all over the world with talent from New Zealand, Canada, and all across the U.S.! I feel like I have professional contacts in New York City that I can contact for advice, and I can’t wait to take their classes once I move there!”

Medici Circle Appreciation

“This exciting week would not have been possible without the generous support of Barbara Molotsky! Thank you for your consistent support of Arizona Arts, the Medici program, and aspiring artists like me!”

Medici Circle support allows talented artists and scholars like Eliza to pursue an educational summer project beyond the classroom.
