School of Dance

Ryan Evans attended the ‘Create Intensive’ at the Hubbard Street Dance Chicago this summer,  thanks to support from the College of Fine Arts Medici Circle.

Evans is a third-year dance major with a minor in Business Administration and Sports Management. He spent a month with the contemporary dance company working directly with the company dancers and directors, who provided insight into what it’s like to be a working company member.

At Hubbard, dancers explored, researched, and collaborated with the company’s choreographers. In addition to the creative process, dancers attended a morning technique class each day.

“The Hubbard Street ‘Create Intensive’ was super fulfilling; it was everything I expected going into the experience. The intensive gave me a clear picture of what life as a professional concert dancer would be like and what my life would be like post-university. It elevated my skills from a collegiate level to professional and made me feel like my future was being taken seriously. The staff were authentic and attentive—everything I could have asked for from such a renowned contemporary company.”

In his free time, Evans and other fellow Wildcat classmates training at Hubbard were able to explore the city of Chicago.

Medici Circle Appreciation

“I would like to express my gratitude to Mr. Wesley Green, the generous donor who graciously contributed to my Medici Scholarship. Green has been helping me further my artistic and knowledge in professional dance, for which I am forever grateful.”
